Take the Daily Grind from Blah to Brilliant!

"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall," Fitzgerald wrote in The Great Gatsby.

It's the beginning of a new school year and the perfect time to start fresh.  This time of year begs for creation.  The sky is Michelangelo-blue and we witness nature's art direction as leaves transform into vibrant colors.  The September Equinox is actually a holiday in the whoopiesphere - September 22 is the Autumnal New Year.  However, getting the kids back to school, driving carpools, and weekends with a plethora of obligatory activities can create the blahs.  We are busy with obligations!  Here are some ways to make the daily grind go from blah to brilliant.

1.  Make time for yourself.  Self care is health care.  Schedule at least one activity a week to pamper yourself.  A recent study found that 87% women would rather have a massage than sex.  Ok, well go out there and get your freaking massage!
2.  Chores.  Make a list of household jobs and have a family meeting to decide who will take on which jobs.  Who knows, you may just get rid of having to clean the toilets.
3.  Whoopify the carpool.  Add a locker disco ball to your dashboard with a rockin' play list.  Or, listen to a book on tape.   Provide crazy hats for riders.  Wear your tiara, real or  metaphoric, to be the queen of your life and make whoopie in the world.

The point is that there are always things in life to improve and to transform.  Do you have something you want to change or create? Maybe you'd like to...
* Make a transition in your career
* Improve your love life
* Free yourself from self doubt
* Cultivate ways to enjoy a tough situation
* Get your child(ren) to behave differently
* Or feel more positive about something

ADDICTED TO "BUSY"

A DAY IN THE LIFE:  husband. two kids. dog. business. friends. social life. errands. soccer. lacrosse. swim practice. birthday presents. after school activities. meetings. workouts. love. sex. marketing.  comedy. positive psychology classwork. social media. spiritual time. reading. fun. cooking. cleaning. traffic. workshops. parents. family. love. joy. self care. bath. grocery store. research. writing. eat. sleep. smile. coaching. planning. recharge time.

The above list identifies my day.  They are not in the order of importance or we all know fun would be first.  Our culture is so busy.  We are frazzled, don't turn off our cell phones, and we are running every which way.  WE ARE DEPLETED.

Hi, my name is Cyndy and I'm addicted to "being busy."  I volunteer for this group and that effort.  I over-commit.   It's something I constantly work on and have been better until a recent over scheduled Winter season.  I've become a drill sergeant for my kids telling them to get their water bottle, hurry up, we have 5 minutes to get to the afternoon's activity.  ENOUGH!   I'm going down, I'm going TIMBER.

We would do well to remember that we choose how our day rolls out.  A few years ago I "minimized" for a summer, only doing what I had to do.  I found that I was able to be much more present with my friends and family.  I wasn't scattered.  Using the advice from a woman and coach I adore, Barbara Stanny, she suggested I keep a "receiving journal."  http://barbarastanny.com  I wrote down feelings that I received from my day and it guided me on how I wanted to plan my future.  It was transformative.  And I learned that it is of utmost importance to make time for myself.

So I challenge you to take a SPRING BREAK FOR THE SOUL and recharge your batteries.  Schedule daily time to take care of yourself. They say teachers teach what they need to learn.  Here I go.  Join me in this effort.

Whoopie Wednesday: Hey Biatch

"Hey Biatch" was on a subject line in my inbox.  I wondered who I had offended this time.  Way too many end of the school year parties are occurring, putting me in that get-out-of-my-way-or-I-will-cut you category.

Can we just be done with the school year already?!  One party is enough to say so long.  Love you, mean it.

In a frenzy this morning, I went to Target to buy a plain white t-shirt for a 4th grade tye-dye party.  Yes, the fine folks at Target let me in even though I'm a cart crasher.  Things that I don't really need seem to jump in my cart there, like a cute pair of running shorts that required a look-see in the fitting room.   When I came out to retrieve my cart, an old lady was wheeling it away.  She was mad as a hornet that I thought her cart was mine.  She probably also has a lot of end of the school year festivities and white shirts to buy for tye-dying and gifts to purchase for teachers and camp forms to get ready and 1st grade readers workshop celebrations to attend.  The confused blue hair even claimed ownership to the lonely Father's Day cards I used to "mark" the cart so that no one would take it.   Upon closer inspection, granny realized the cards were for "grandpa," and that she had no intention of giving gramps anything.  Note to Target:  Please add a new sticker in the kid seat area of cart:   "Do not leave Father's Day cards unattended."

If you feel as busy as a beaver right now, here's a little something that will help you have more time in your day.  It's a wand at the grocery store that magically keeps you from having to load food in the cart, unload the food on the belt, bag the groceries, and then reload bags in you your buggy.  It's so genius, It made me do a frozen food aisle dance break.  How's that biaches?!
